The Akhal Teke is renowned for its endurance. The Russians call it the ‘argama’ or sacred horse; the Chinese, the ‘heavenly horse’. From Bucephalas carrying Alexander into battle at Issus, the Soviet Absent, winning a record six Olympic medals and French poet Laurence Bougault, who rode Almila from Isfahan, Iran, to Paris. Surely, no one, could be a better match for an Akhal Teke than Gill Suttle.
Solo horse back across Syria and Mongolia, not to mention ‘Jailbreak’ – A slow journey through Eastern Europe (At all good[ish] book shops). Not to mention all the aforementioned accolades, Gill took a proverbial fall in 1989 and was diagnosed with Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome ~ ME to you and I. [4] [5].
